An Earth-Based Prayer for Los Angeles: Holding Our Community in Love 🕯️

"There is more love, more love, more love than we could ever imagine."

Hello, beautiful souls. I'm here with you today because I felt so deeply called to hold sacred space for Los Angeles, my chosen home, and for all who are feeling unsettled during these challenging times.

Over these couple of days, as our city faced the reality of ICE raids creating fear in our neighborhoods, I felt the urgent call to do what feels most natural to me: offer prayer. Not just any prayer, but an Earth-Based Prayer that speaks to our shared humanity and connects us to this sacred land we call home.

Why Earth-Based Prayer?

I want to share something important with you. A lot of us were taught that prayer belongs to a certain religion, and that's why I put "Earth-Based Prayer" in the title. Prayer really is our communication, our way of elevating our requests, elevating our gratitude.

I like to think of prayer as a co-creation. I'm co-creating with my spiritual team. Prayer is our natural birthright…our way of connecting with the divine, with the Earth beneath our feet, with the understanding that we are all interconnected.

We burn sacred smoke because this is an offering, but it also helps us to elevate our prayers so that we are supported at this time.

Honoring the Land and Its Ancestors

Before I began the prayer, I felt called to acknowledge the ancestors of the Los Angeles region, the Chumash and all the original peoples who loved and tended to this beautiful land long before any of us arrived.

I think it's so important to remember that Los Angeles has always been sacred ground, a place where people have lived, loved, and dreamed for thousands of years. This land that I call home, this land that is home to so many from all over the world, so many people that have come to Los Angeles to make their dreams come true. It really is a place where dreams get realized.

The Prayer: A Sacred Offering

Opening Sacred Space

Let's rub our hands together to bring ourselves into presence, bringing our left and right brain into harmony, and place our hands on our heart...

"As we open sacred space to say these words, we connect with the energy, the vibration of the earth. Tonantzin, Pachamama, Chundafe, Mama Gaia… all the multiple names we call you. Thank you for protecting. Thank you for loving the sacred land of Los Angeles. A land where angels live."

Let's remember that Los Angeles, the land of the angels.

My Prayer for Protection and Safety

"We offer a prayer of protection for all those that are feeling unsettled, a prayer of safety for all of those that are fearing for their safety, a prayer for all those that actually are in danger for their safety, and a prayer for even those who are harming others so that they can come back to their heart, come back to their heart so that they know that there is a better way."

Remembering Our Truth

I want to remind us that we are being sold lies right now. We are being sold that humans are not enough if they don't have a piece of paper that says they are legally in the country. But we know that those are lies. We know that every human deserves love, dignity, respect, safety. Every human.

Today, as ICE is in the streets of Los Angeles, I pray that they may energetically be frozen, frozen to commit any more harm. And may the protesters be protected, the peaceful protesters be protected.

Standing in Love, Not Violence

I want to remind us in this prayer that many people in Los Angeles are protesting peacefully, no matter what the media wants to show. There is a circle of hearts that are uniting peacefully to protect their neighbors, to protect other humans from injustice and harm.

I pray for those that have forgotten, you know, I see a lot of pictures of brown and black people with ICE uniforms. And so I pray for those that have forgotten that we are all humans, that we are all brothers and sisters, that there is a better way than violence, that there are peaceful ways to do things.

Envisioning the Miracle

"So I pray for a miracle in Los Angeles. We are being sold right now that this could be a dystopian future scenario, and the truth is that there's more love, more love, more love than we could ever imagine. And so we, with this prayer, envision the city of Los Angeles filled with love, so much love that whatever harm wants to come, it gets repelled. So much love in Los Angeles that a miracle occurs."

I envision a miracle, that this situation causes a miracle so that we can treat each other with so much respect, dignity, and compassion.

What If Things Could Be Different?

What if the outcome could be different from what we imagine? What if every person in Los Angeles is safe? What if every person in Los Angeles is free from harm?

So we unite hearts, unite spirits to send this vibration, see this as a possibility, to hold Los Angeles in this prayer.

Our Sacred Stand

"And we put our hands on our heart... And we stand, we stand for love, we stand for compassion, we stand for solution, we stand for miracles. This doesn't mean that we go into denial, it just means that this is the stand. This is the certainty that no matter what, we know that there is a way through."

"May all people in Los Angeles be blessed. May they be safe, may they be protected, may they be loved, and may they be away from harm. For this we are so grateful and together we say, so it is."

This doesn't mean I'm going into denial about what's happening, it means I choose to stand in the power of love and the certainty that there is always a way through.
